ECNBA announce 2024 election results, as Osigwe leads in NBA Presidential race

Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) is poised to announce the final results of its keenly contested 2024 elections tomorrow, July 21, at 10:00 am.

The event, which marks the culmination of the electoral process, will be held at the NBA House Auditorium, Plot 1101 Muhammadu Buhari Way, Abuja.

In a joint statement, ECNBA Chairman Oluseun Abimbola SAN and Secretary Huwaila Ibrahim Muhammad extended an invitation to all candidates and members to witness this defining moment. “We invite all candidates and members to attend this concluding part of the election process and important announcement,” the statement read.

For those unable to attend in person, the NBA has made arrangements for virtual participation via Zoom, with the passcode 822460.

At the time of filing this report, the vote count as of 10:30 am on July 20, 2024, has been released. However, the voting process is still ongoing and will conclude at 11:59 pm Nigerian time today.

As of the latest update, the vote count revealed the following leading candidates:

* President: Mazi Afam Josiah Osigwe, SAN (19,990 votes)

* 1st Vice-President: Sabastine Anyia (11,902 votes)

* 2nd Vice-President: Mrs Bolatumi Olasunbo Animashaun (25,994 votes)

* 3rd Vice-President: Mrs Zainab Aminu Garba (23,103 votes)

* General Secretary: Dr Mobolaji Idris Ojibara (25,198 votes)

* Assistant General Secretary: Henry Barnabas Ehi (28,018 votes)

* Treasurer: Mrs Blessing Imo Udofa-Poromon (17,632 votes)

* Welfare Secretary: Mr Nyada Auta (18,017 votes)

* Publicity Secretary: Mrs Bridget Ijeoma Edokwe (19,136 votes)

* Asst. Publicity Secretary: Miss Ebiere Emmanuella Ekpese (26,396 votes)

The NBA Representatives to the General Council of the Bar for the Eastern, Northern, and Western zones were also announced, with five representatives each.

It is important to note that these results are not final, as voting will continue until 11:59 pm Nigerian time. NBA members who have not yet cast their votes are encouraged to do so before the deadline.

The election has witnessed a high level of participation, with a total of 39,666 votes tallied for the position of President and similar numbers for other positions, as of the latest count. The NBA has assured members of a transparent and fair process, with the results to be formally announced once voting concludes and all votes are tallied.
