The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on Tuesday urged Nigerians to disregard messages on free registration of business names and companies.
The Nigerian Companies Registry issued this warning in a statement on Twitter and said such messages would never come from them.
“Please, disregard any SMS or WhatsApp message asking you to enroll for free CAC registration, as it is not from us! Thank you,” CAC posted.
Meanwhile, the Lagos Office of the Corporate Affairs Commission hosted the Registrar General/CEO of the Commission, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji (SAN) on Monday. The Registrar General, who came to Lagos on an official engagement, decided to visit the state office of CAC in continuation of his interactive meetings with staff.
Accompanied by the Head of Public Affairs/Deputy Director, Dominic O. Inyang, the CAC boss was received on arrival by the Head of Lagos Office/Assistant Director, Mabuyaku Oritsematosan Joan, who conducted him around the facilities at the office.
The Registrar-General interacted with members of staff and entertained their complaints, challenges and suggestions. Magaji also assured them of a prompt response to the issues for enhanced productivity.
He stressed that the visit would afford him the opportunity to hear firsthand their challenges and experiences on the job and provide immediate solutions where possible.
The commission, on its website, recently issued a notice for companies operating in Nigeria, their directors and officers to submit their annual returns with the commission.
It noted that there has been large-scale non-compliance with this requirement by companies. From January 1, 2024, the commission said it will commence full application of the penalties provided by the Companies Regulations 2021.
It noted, “As from that date, the penalties prescribed by the Companies Regulations against a company and each of its directors or officers shall be applied fully by the commission for failure to file annual returns.”
It encourages directors and officers to take advantage of the window by promptly filing their annual returns with the commission.
