Estate surveyors and valuers have been charged to incorporate leisure activities into their lives, as recreation can be a transformative tool to optimise their performance.
The Chairman, Nigerian lnstitution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), Lagos branch, Olugbenga lsmail, made the call during an advocacy/walk for fitness forum organised by the welfare sub-committee in Lagos. He said real estate business requires people that are active in both body and mind, hence, the need to embark on activities that will make these critical components function at their best.
He said: “The overarching objective is to promote the health of our members but we are also educating residents to know about what estate surveyors do in the society and the value they add to our environment.
“Health is wealth and general fitness will only keep the mind working, as it should be. If you don’t keep doing exercises, people will start to get fatigued and won’t be active. The parameters of good living include sleeping and eating well, as well as exercising.
“We are reminding estate surveyors that they must take care of their health. Outside of real estate business, they should pick up sports in various forms to keep them active.”
Ismail, who also reiterated the need for the public to patronise professionals, noted that estate surveyors are trained in surveying and valuation, assets management both tangible and intangible, public and private infrastructural development.
The chairman added that by deploying services of the professionals, the society would also get the best from those who are experts in land economics, investment portfolio managers, title documentation experts, and employers of labour, land administrators and consultants.
On her part, Chairman, Welfare Sub-committee, Mrs. Talat Yusuf-Abdulkadri, said the initiative would promote good and healthy living among practicing estate surveyors in the state.
She said: “As part of the present leadership agenda, we are increasing membership experience. This will help our members because we are site officers, who go regularly for site inspection, climb storey buildings, measure lands that could be over five hectares and if our members are not fit, they cannot do such exercises.”
Yusuf-Abdulkadri further urged estate surveyors and valuers to embrace exercises.
