Three police officers serving with Ogun State Police Command are to face an orderly room trial for professional misconduct.
The officers, Inspectors Ikhanorba Lucky, Paul Sunday, and Edwin Ekeogu, were caught in professional misconduct while on visibility policing duty at Maawu Bus stop in Agbado area of the state.
Spokesperson for the command, Superintendent of Police (SP), Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the development in a statement, yesterday, said the officers were caught on camera extorting money from commercial motorcyclists in contravention of the Police Act and Regulations.
She said the inappropriate actions of the three policemen were subsequently shared on social media.
Odutola said the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has condemned the unprofessional act of the men.
To address this misconduct, she said, the Command has activated appropriate disciplinary measures against the erring personnel.
According to her, this is to ensure that they are held accountable for their misconduct and to serve as a deterrent to others who might be tempted to toe this ignoble path.
“The CP has for the umpteenth time emphasised police high hierarchy commitment to upholding professional standards within the NPF, sustain quality service delivery to the citizens and sustain public trust and confidence in Nigeria Police Force,” she added.
