The police in Osun State, yesterday, appealed to indigenes of Ilobu and Ifon Orolu communities to remain calm and refrain from taking law into their hands over the killing of one Sodiq Alamu.

The Guardian learnt that 28-year-old Alamu was killed along Opapa village in Ilobu on Saturday.

Alamu hailed from Aganna compound in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Council of Osun State.The Commissioner of Police, Patrick Kehinde Longe, in a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed that the police were aware of the incident.

He said investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances leading to Alamu’s death.

The police boss also said the command was aware of clandestine meetings by some groups of people, who are plotting to cause mayhem over the development.

Longe said he has been having meetings with the traditional ruler in Ilobu, the Olobu of Ilobu, and relevant stakeholders to ensure that peace reigns in the area.

Residents of Ilobu and Ifon-Osun towns, in Irepodun and Orolu Local Councils of Osun State, respectively, have been at loggerheads over ownership of a land located at Opapa village, on the boundary between the two communities.

The communities are currently in court over the issue.

Earlier, the Ilobu Asake Development Union (IDU), had accused some chiefs in Ifon -Osun of having a hand in Alamu’s killing.

This allegation was contained in a statement signed by Tairu Babatunde, the Public Relations Officer of the union on Sunday.

IDU, thereafter, called on Governor Ademola Adeleke, to rise to the occasion to avert breakdown of law and order.

While calling on security agencies to immediately arrest, investigate and charge the duo to court for Alamu’s murder, IDU said the step would restore the confidence on the security architecture, as residents and indigenes of Ilobu now live in fear.

Meanwhile, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has imposed curfew on Ilobu and Ifon communities, following communal clash between the communities.
