Govt to enforce regulations codes on flight delays, cancellations

The Federal Government has said it will examine frequent cases of flight cancellations and delays and possible look at enforcing regulations on such issues.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo disclosed this during a recent visit to the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, according to a statement by the ministry.

“We are willing to protect local airlines, we expects them to be more efficient and effective. However, issues of flight cancellation and delays will be looked into and laws enforced where necessary,” he said.

According to the Head Press and Public Relations of the ministry, Odutayo Oluseyi , 60 per cent of FAAN’s revenue comes from Lagos, emphasising the need to utilize the new terminal effectively.

The minister was quoted as adding that the new terminal boasts 60 check-in points and has the capability to handle a significant number of air traffic.

He said the Federal Government had expressed its desire to maximise the revenue generating capacity of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria.

Keyamo also addressed the state of the old terminal, stating that it required a complete overhaul.

As a result, the statement said the minister had directed all airlines operating in the old terminal to relocate their check-in counters to the new terminal.

The statement said, “60% of FAAN’s revenue comes from Lagos and as such the new terminal should be used optimally.”

The minister further directed the removal of unserviceable aircraft by the owners for the expansion of apron.

Keyamo was further quoted as saying that said he would discuss with owners of private hangars within the space for possible relocation of their hangars.
