Oyo landlords protest alleged land grabbing by Compound Head, Mogaji

Scores of landlords in the Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, alongside their families, on Thursday, besieged the Oyo State House of Assembly to protest the sealing of over 200 houses by a yet-to-be-identified Compound Head (Mogaji) in the Moniya area of Ibadan.

The protesters also visited the Alarere residence of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun.Over 200 houses were sealed in four Akinyele LGA communities, Alaja Phase One, Alaja Phase Two, Isagunna and Aponmode at Moniya.

A mogaji laying claim to the land was said to have used policemen to eject the residents.

Addressing the protesters on Thursday at the Assembly, the lawmaker representing Akinyele Constituency 1, Lekan Abiola, said “All parties will be invited and amicable solution will be made. The mogaji is a well-known person in ibadan and will be invited to find a solution to the issue.”

Also speaking, the lawmaker representing Akinyele Constituency 2, Olatunde Kehinde promised to hold a meeting with the state Commissioner of Police and Area Commander to find a solution to the matter.

“It’s surprising that the communities were invaded just like that,” he said.

The Executive Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security, Sunday Odukoya, was also present during the protest, calling for calm, and assuring that the government would amicably resolve the matter.

The protesters later proceeded to the Olubadan residence, Agidigbo FM and Radio Nigeria, Amuludun FM, all within Ibadan.

When contacted, the Personal Assistant on Media to the Olubadan, Oladele Ogunsola, confirmed that “The residents of the area in scores stormed the Alarere residence of the Olubadan, Oba Balogun in protest against what they described as

a dangerous invasion and they were pacified by the monarch through one of his aides, Isiaka Akinpelu.”
