Maikyau calls for collaboration on legal reforms, pledges NBA support to the new AGF

President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, paid

a courtesy visit to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation designee, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, in Abuja.

During the visit, Mr. Maikyau described Mr. Fagbemi as a “round peg in a round hole” and expressed excitement over his appointment among many lawyers. He pledged the NBA’s full support as Mr. Fagbemi assumes office.

In response, Mr. Fagbemi conveyed appreciation for the visit and stated the NBA’s backing gives him comfort. He called on the NBA President to present the Bar’s official position on legal reforms and areas for improving the judiciary.

Mr. Maikyau was joined by NBA Annual General Conference committee member, Mrs. Oyikan Badejo, who briefed Mr. Fagbemi about the upcoming NBA Conference starting on August 25th in Abuja.

The courtesy visit indicates the NBA’s endorsement of the new

Attorney General and its readiness to collaborate with him to strengthen Nigeria’s legal system. Mr. Fagbemi will be assuming his new office shortly with the backing of the country’s main lawyers’ professional body.
