Two in court for allegedly stealing firm’s inverter batteries

Two men, Olaleye Oladeji and Jamiu Mustapha, were on Tuesday arraigned before an Ebute-Metta Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a telecommunications firm’s inverter batteries worth N1.6 million.

The defendants are facing three counts of conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen property preferred against them by the police.

Oladeji and Mustapha were arraigned before Magistrate Kafayat Tella.

The prosecutor, Inspector Olatunde Kehinde, told the court that the defendants conspired to commit the offence.

He said the incident took place on August 8, 2023, around 1.45pm, at Opeyeru Street, the Orile Iganmu area of Lagos State.

Kehinde told the court that the first defendant, Oladeji stole, eight inverter batteries valued at N1.6m.

The prosecutor also said the second defendant, Mustapha, received the stolen inverter batteries from the first defendant.

According to him, the offence committed contravened Sections 411, 287, and 328 (1), of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The magistrate granted them bail in the sum of N300,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

She adjourned the case till October 10, 2023, for mention.
