The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Asaba Branch, in collaboration with the Punuka Foundation,
commemorates the Hon. Justice Chukwunweike Idigbe Centenary with the inauguration of the Hon. Justice Chike Idigbe E-Library and Resource Centre, alongside a public lecture.
To celebrate the posthumous 100th birthday of Hon. Justice Chukwunweike Idigbe, JSC, OFR, the NBA Asaba Branch will launch the brand new E-Library and Resource Centre on Friday, August 11, 2023. The center, named after the late Hon. Justice Chike Idigbe, JSC, OFR, will be situated within the NBA Asaba Bar Centre on High Court Road, off Okpanam road,
Asaba. The commissioning will take place at 9.00 am and will be presided over by the Honorable Chief Judge of Delta State, Hon. Justice T. O. Diai, accompanied by other Judges of the High Court.
Furthermore, a Public Lecture in honor of the esteemed jurist will be held on the same day at 11:00 am at the Court of Appeal Complex, located off Mariam Babangida Road, Asaba. Chief T. J. O. Okpoko, SAN, and other dignitaries will be present at the event. The public lecture’s theme is “The impact of Justice Idigbe on Nigerian Commercial Jurisprudence: through his judgments,” and it will be delivered by Prof. Emeka Chianu from the University of Benin, Benin City. Another distinguished Professor of Law, Prof. Poonam Puri from Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Canada, will also speak at the event.
Throughout his illustrious career, the late jurist practiced law actively in Warri, which is now part of Delta State, and earned recognition throughout Western and Eastern Nigeria. He later served as a Judge of the then Western Nigerian High Court, became Chief Justice of the Midwestern Region, and ultimately sat as a Justice of the Supreme Court.
According to a statement from Mr. Precious Nwadimuya, the Chairman of the NBA Asaba Branch, the event is expected to draw various participants, including Judges and other members of the Bench, Senior Advocates of Nigeria, and eminent legal practitioners from Edo, Delta, Rivers, Anambra States, and neighboring regions.
The general public is cordially invited to attend the public lecture.
