The Association of Legislative Drafting and Advocacy Practitioners (ALDRAP) has introduced legislative drafting and advocacy courses for lawyers and other professionals.

General Secretary of the Association, Dr. Tonye Clinton Jaja, said it is a continuing educational programme that is vital for lawyers and other professionals interested in the course. He said: “We are delighted to introduce the professional continuing education programmes for lawyers and other professionals in the field of legislative drafting and advocacy. “The Nigerian Bar Association’s Institute of Continuing Legal Education provides accreditation for all the programmes since September 2017. The ALC, University of Abuja is also a partner.” According to him, participants will earn a certificate accredited by both the Nigerian Bar Association’s Institute of Continuing Legal Education and the University of Abuja. The Association, is therefore, requesting application for Senior Legislative Counsel course; Intensive Certification Course in Legislative Drafting (two weeks); Course in Drafting Budget, Tax and Financial Legislation; Clerks of Legislatures Certification Course; Amendment of Constitution, Legislation and Standing Orders Course; Engrossment and Gazetting Procedure course as well as Agency Establishment procedure and Drafting course. Others are Application of Information Communication Technology in Legislative Drafting course; Drafting of ECOWAS and other Treaty Legislation course; Drafting of Criminal and Penal Legislation course, and Drafting Instructions course. He explained that lawyers, legislative aides, and secretaries are free to participate in the training, adding that students will learn from globally-recognised faculty when they enroll. “They will receive guidance from visionary faculty having combined 95 plus years of practical experience in legislative drafting as a former Senator, and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and PhD degree in Legislative Drafting from the University of London. “Receive career-readiness support through career workshops to complement their professional journey. “Gain insights from legislative drafting industry veterans, interact with legislative drafting industry experts and learn ICT drafting techniques to solve legislative challenges,” he explained.
