Lawyers have dragged the NBA President, Y. C Maikyau SAN, calling him the most Incompetent President in NBA’s history and has demanded his resignation.

In a video making rounds of social media, a group of lawyers communicated their shame in the NBA President, Y. C Maikyau, noting that his in action to address the real issues in the scuffle between the Department of State Security Service (DSS) and National as a sign of weakness and incompetency.

According to one of the Lawyers, Maxwell Okpara Esq, they were in support of their colleagues who were calling for the resignation of the current NBA President, Y. C Maikyau SAN. He noted that what happened at the Federal High Court in Lagos, was as a result of the failure of the NBA President to act. “When the DSS attacked we Lawyers that are carrying out our professional duties, the NBA kept quiet. I personally wrote a letter to the NBA President, complaining about what happened. In my letter, I attached all the whole evidence to the NBA President. As I speak to you, no reply, not even an ordinary call”, he said.

He opined that it was as a result of this failure by the NBA President to address the DSS, that gave them in his words “the audacity to attack the Judge, attack Nigeria and attack the Judiciary on the 25th of July, 2023”.

He also went on to inform, that on 25th July, 2023 while the DSS were scuffling against NCS in contempt of court order, J. B Daudu SAN present in Court, immediately called the NBA President, Maikyau SAN to put him on notice as to what was going on. As such, Okpara Esq noted that he alongside his colleagues were surprised that Maikyau SAN described the event as a “mere fighting between two agencies”. “Now, we asking this question. Somebody came to carry out an order of court, and another person attacked him, tore his clothes, even ordinary sympathy, empathy the NBA can’t give to the Correctional Service Staff. He said is mere fighting between agencies” Okpara described.

On this basis, Okpara Esq submitted that Y.C Maikyau SAN lacked the capacity to lead the bar, and he should resign immediately. His words read thus: “We are seeing it from the angle that the NBA President lacked the capacity to lead the Bar. He should as a matter of agency resign”. He went to add thus: “I am calling NEC to call an emergency meeting when he fails to resign and pass a vote of no confidence on him”.

He noted further that Maikyau SAN was the most incompetent President he had ever seen. On the rationale for their demands, he posited that NBA is the voice of the Judges and the Registrars and they have been failed by the NBA. He made comparison to a similar situation when Paul Usoro was NBA President, noting that Usoro called for a boycotting of Courts by NBA members to show that the Association was not in support of the actions of DSS attacking Judges. However, about Maikyau’s administration, he commented that the international committee and Nigerians citizens are not only questioning the NBA’s inaction but also the NBA President’s statement. He noted that this was evidence of incompetence and Maikyau SAN should resign.

Another Lawyer, Okere Kingdom noted that NBA Presidency is not an avenue to look for political appointment. He advised that if that is Maikyau’s SAN agenda, he should resign and go and look for appointment. Also, he opined that Maikyau SAN was the most incompetent NBA President he had ever seen, and he should resign immediately or NEC should remove him.

Furthermore, he made reference to the suspension of a lawyer by the NBA chairman for writing to CAC to address the issue of registering the Nigeria Law Society, noting that is the hallmark of the NBA President. He noted further that the Nigeria Law Society were in Court against CAC to be registered as an organisation.

“Maikyau you are the most incompetent person to continue as NBA President for supporting DSS after desecrating the Federal High Court.”, Okere Kingdom said.

Furthermore, according to him, the NBA’s description of the Federal High Court incident was faulty. He noted that the Court had given an order that Emefiele should be bailed immediately, and if that wasn’t possible that same day, the Nigerian Correctional Service should have custody of him, to which the DSS refused vehemently and attacked the NCS boss who came to carry Emefiele into custody and not what the NBA President was describing it to be. “There was nothing like two fighting. The DSS came to court with their lawlessness as ordered by their DG, Bichi who is lawless and vowed to institute lawlessness in Nigeria. And we must continue to tell him and tell Tinubu who has made him his attack dog to institute lawless in Nigeria and this lawlessness would soon bring down Tinubu’s administration.” Okere Kingdom stated.

He concluded by communicating his shame in the NBA President, Maikyau SAN for his statement about the incident.
