NBA Kaduna Branch to hold 2023 Bar Week, 16 – 20 June

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Kaduna Branch has outlined series of activities to mark its 2023 Law Week.

The annual event is scheduled to hold from 16th to 20th June 2023 with the theme: LEVEL UP- UPLIFTING THE STANDARDS OF LEGAL PRACTICE.

The Law Week is a Five-Day Event filled with activities, which are geared towards expanding and uplifting the legal know-how of its members and also providing a collegial atmosphere for members to socialize and mingle with colleagues and members of other profession invited as guests both within and outside the city of Kaduna.

The event shall start on 16th June 2023 with a Jumaat Prayer at Umar Bin Khattab Mosque, Behind Fire Service Tudun Nupawa Kaduna, immediately after Fama Firm will host the Branch at their new office complex- FAMA- The Place Plot C18 Urban Shelter Estate, Millennium City, Kaduna and there would be a Football Match between NBA Kaduna Vs FRSC at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

On 17th June 2023, we shall have a Family Picnic at Goshen Garden, Kachia Road, Sabo Tasha, Kaduna, it would be a great bonding session with Members encouraged to come with their families and food. On the 18th June 2023, there will be a Thanksgiving Service at Living Faith Church, Ungwan Romi, Near Command Junction, Kaduna. A former Vice Chairman of the Branch, Mike Nwakanma, Esq will host the Branch to lunch at the same venue immediately after the service.

The Opening Ceremony of the Law Week shall be on 19th June 2023 at the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, No. 21 Race Course Road, Kaduna. Chukwuka Ikwuazom, SAN, Former Chairman NBA Lagos Branch and Chairman, NBA SARC Committee will be the Keynote Speaker on the Theme of the week – Level Up- Uplifting The Standards Of Legal Practice.

The Showcase Session would follow thereafter on the Topic- In The Eye Of The Storm- Lawyers & The Wider Society; Whither The Relationship? with Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, FCIArb (UK), Chair NBA AGC- Planning Committee, Kazeem Oladepo, Vice President, IHS Towers and ESV Abdulkareem Sule Obaito, Chair NIESV, Kaduna Branch as Panelists. The session would be moderated by Dr. Maryam Shehu Mohammed, Company Secretary, Mafab Communications Limited.

The Plenary Session titled “Show Me The Money- Improving Remuneration & Scale of Fees For Lawyers” shall hold on 19th June 2023 with Tobenna Erojikwe, Director General of the Institute of Continuing Legal Education NBA, Marx Ikongbeh, Principal Everlaw Associates, Abuja and Abdullahi Yahaya, SAN as Panelists. The Session shall be moderated by Gloria Ballason, the Chief Executive Officer of House of Justice and Principal Partner Mive Legals.

Speaking about the Law Week, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Idris Mohammed, FCIArb, noted that the event will conclude with a Fireside Chat titled “You Can Do It- Mentoring & Opportunities For Young Lawyers In The Digital Space” with Inemesit Dike, the CEO of Legal Concierge, Founder Legal X and Chair, Digital Committee NBA, Idris Mohammed, FCIArb (UK), Managing Partner Fama Firm and Alt Chair, Digital Committee NBA and Marx Ikongbeh, Principal Everlaw Associates, Abuja and Secretary, Digital Committee NBA shall engage the young lawyers in the Branch in a motivational session and reveal opportunities that abound in the Digital space.

“In collaboration with Garnet Clinic, Kaduna, there shall be Free Health Check to include Health Talk, Blood Pressure Check, Blood Sugar Test, Hearing Test and Sight Test on all interested members.

Registration was concluded on the 26th May 2023 and we had a massive registration by members of the branch. The Participants shall each get a three-piece knapsack bag, customized program/magazine and a pen donated by Fama Firm.

“We also had a promotion, wherein we went to senior lawyers and signed them up for the Level Up Team, we produced good-quality jerseys with their names on the back. Pictures are attached.
