CIPM, CIPD sign MoU on HR standards

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, UK, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to forge a strategic partnership in strengthening HR standards.

The President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIPM, Olusegun Mojeed revealed that the signing of the MoU took place on June 2, 2023, in Lagos.

He stated, “The significant event marks a new chapter in our commitment to fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and professional growth in human resources across continents. It is also a testament to the shared values and the common pursuit of excellence that bind both Institutes together.”

He noted that Nigeria and the United Kingdom had long-standing ties, both culturally and economically. “Today’s (Friday) partnership reinforces and strengthens these bonds, particularly in the people and business management space. We aim to leverage our collective expertise to address the challenges facing the HR profession in our respective countries and positively impact the global HR landscape. The newly inaugurated CIPM United Kingdom Branch will also facilitate the execution of some of the initiatives in the MoU.

“Within this Memorandum of Understanding, we aim to collaborate on several initiatives for the collective benefit of our members. Some notable provisions include exploring opportunities for mutual recognition of CIPM and CIPD members/certification through professional examination and experience routes benchmarked against the CIPD Profession Map and the CIPM Body of Knowledge, respectively,” Mojeed explained.

He mentioned that the partnership would enable information sharing, insights, and best practices in the HR/People Management profession globally, including regulatory and other matters in markets of mutual interest.

He asserted, “We proposed a partnership to deliver virtual and physical learning programmes and conferences. We can provide subject matter experts/faculty for specific subject areas. We will also collaborate on research efforts to enhance the HR/People Management profession, including member education, trends forecasting, and international recognition.”

He further stated that both bodies mutually agreed on delivering learning programmes, short certification programs, and other events such as capacity-building workshops on relevant topics to stakeholders in public and private sectors based on agreed terms.

According to him, the immediate impact of the collaboration would be visible in the coming weeks.

“Our joint efforts will undoubtedly pave the way for a stronger HR community in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. I am excited about the possibilities and the impact we can collectively create,” Mojeed remarked.
