The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), has visited the family of kidnapped former President of the association, Okey Wali (SAN), in Port Harcourt to show solidarity with them.
Also, the NBA President visited the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State,Okon Effiong, as well as the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital to see the two policemen in Wali’s company who were shot by the armed men dressed in military uniform before whisking him away.
The NBA Chairman, Port Harcourt branch, Victor Benibo, disclosed this to our correspondent during a telephone chat on Monday afternoon when asked for the update on the SAN’s abduction.
Benibo stated, “Well, no development, except that the NBA President visited Wali’s family and also went to the UPTH to visit the police officers who were shot.”
Asked if the abductors had made any contact, he said, “No, nothing has been heard from the abductors. They have not called any member of the family.
“It is just for us to continue praying. During the NBA President visit to the family on Sunday, they organised a prayer session there.”
Recall that Wali, who was the 26th President of the NBA, was abducted at gun-point last Monday, along the Obiri Ikwerre flyover on the East-West Road in Obio/Akpotu Local Government Area of Port Harcourt.
The kidnappers shot and killed one of his aides while two policemen attached to him sustained gunshot wounds.
Our correspondent gathered that the NBA president his delegation of chairmen, secretaries and other senior members of the Bar from the branches of NBA in Rivers State were received by Mr Kingsley Wali, and Mrs Wali, the younger brother and the wife of Wali, respectively.
It was further lent that the NBA president expressed his concern over the unfortunate incident and prayed for God’s intervention in the difficulties being faced by the family in this trying time.
Maikyau urged the family to keep faith with God and believe that Wali would be released to the family by the grace of God.
Our correspondent also gathered that the NBA president and the delegation thereafter paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner Police in Rivers State, Effiong, where they held a closed-door meeting.
Maikyau and his delegation also paid a courtesy visit the Chairman Body of Benchers, Justice Mary Odili (rted.), at her residence in Port Harcourt.
