A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former Deputy Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof Ernest Ojukwu SAN , has been appointed as the chairman of the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association on Sunday, 16th April, by the President Yakubu Maikayu, SAN.

The Ethics and Disciplinary committee is, amongst other responsibilities, tasked with the burden of producing new rules of professional conduct for legal practitioners. It should be recalled that Prof. Ojukwu also led the reform of the current Rules of Professional Conduct for the legal profession. He submitted a draft to the Agbakoba led NBA administration in 2007 which subsequently became the RPC 2007

While Prof Ernest Ojukwu, SAN is to serve as the chairman of the ethics and disciplinary committee of the NBA; Olabisi Soyebo, SAN is to serve as alternate chairman and Eno Edet serve as secretary to the committee.

Assoh, Altine Ibrahim, Muobo Majemite, George Aderigha Ebinyu, Jibrin S. Jibrin, Nuhu Suleiman Tafida, Abubakar Muhammad, Tijani Magaji, Abdulrahman Wasagu, Saleh Khala Jidda, Mukhtar Bello Shehu, Philip Atsev, Habiba Madugu, Rilwan Umar, Leah Hassan, Dave Ajetomobi, Ifedapo Osadola, Ejike Ugwu, Maimuna Maigida Ikwuloni, Mitchell Eleojo Musa and B. E. Tambou.

In setting up this committee, the NBA President exercised his power which is donated by the provision of Section 14 of the Constitution of the Nigerian Bar Association, 2015 (as amended in 2021), and ratified by the National Executive Council (NEC) made some of the Standing and Ad Hoc Committees which includes the Judiciary Committee; Law Reform Committee; Rule of Law and Human Right Committee; Legal Education Committee; Dispute Resolution Committee; Welfare Committee; Finance Committee; General Purpose Committee; Sports and Recreation Committee; Constitution Review Committee; Security Agencies Relation Committee; Digital Committee; Anticorruption Committee; Media and Creativity Committee; Future of Legal Practice Committee; Public Interest Litigation Committee; NBA Stabilization Fund Committee; NBA Committee on Parliamentary Affairs and then Appointment and Remuneration Committee.
