The Enforcement Team of Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority, alongside members of Lagos State Task Force, have arrested three persons comprising two site supervisors of a building located at No. 5, Eromosele Street, Parkview Estate Ikoyi for allegedly violating the state’s Physical Planning Permit Law.
A statement by LASPPPA gave the names of the three persons as Samuel Adeleke, 31; Oyewole Israel, 21; and one Alhaji Morufu Alade, 53.
The violators, according to the General Manager of LASPPPA, Kehinde Osinaike, will be prosecuted for breaking government seals unlawfully, bye-passing the restriction placed on the named property by the authority and continuing construction works without authorisation.
Explaining the rationale behind the arrest, Osinaike recalled that the property was served notices and sealed by LASPPPA officials before the owner of the said property went on to bye-pass the seal.
The owner also instructed his workers to go back to the site without due recourse of visiting the District office of LASPPPA at Ikoyi to start the process of obtaining a permit before continuing construction.
According to him, the arrest will serve as a deterrent to other deviant developers who are in the habit of violating the physical planning permit laws of Lagos State by removing seals without authorisation.
Osinaike, who urged those in the act of removing seals unlawfully to desist from the act, warned that the state will no longer condone any disregard for town planning laws as this usually results in losses in the long run.
In a related development, the LASPPPA said it had re-sealed an illegal filling station located at No. 1 Robinson Gbagi street, Ajao Estate during a joint enforcement exercise with officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, LASBCA.
The agency said the owner of the Filling Station went ahead to continue construction despite the stop work order and sealing of the site exactly on March 18, 2022 due to non-conformity to physical planning regulations.
It said the filling station, which has now reached completion level, had been re-sealed by the state government and would remain sealed until the owner met all necessary provisions of the law.
