Earlier it was reported that three lawyers for ALL Progressive Congress in Rivers State working on election petition were arrested by operatives of the Nigeria police.

According to the circular made available to ASKLEGALPALACE, the statement read as follows

Distinguished Colleagues,

Earlier today, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) received report of the arrest of three of our members, who are attending to a governorship election petition brief in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

While the NBA has the commitment of the Inspector General of Police to immediately release our colleagues, the NBA President has condemned this unwarranted arrest. According to Mr. Maikyau, "situations where the instrumentality of the police is apparently being used to harass and intimidate lawyers, is a direct affront to the rule of law and a threat to our democracy."
