Abiodun congratulates PUNCH management

The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has felicitated PUNCH Nigeria Limited for its 50 years anniversary and being a leading light in the practice of modern journalism.

PUNCH is Nigeria’s most widely read newspaper and is the publisher of The PUNCH, Saturday PUNCH, Sunday PUNCH and its online platforms. The company cclocked 50 years of existence and excellent journalism on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

The governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, on Saturday, eulogised the medium for staying focused as a pro-people organisation and its credible, fair and balanced reportage to foster good governance and protect the fundamental rights of citizens.

The statement quoted the governor as saying, “PUNCH is not just a newspaper of record, it is a leading light in the practice of modern journalism. It has also been a principled brand that says it as it is: balanced, fair and credible news. That you have survived five decades is a testament to the managerial acumen of your management and dedication of your staff. Not a few newspapers have gone into mortality these past years while PUNCH continues to wax stronger daily.

“Your editorials are known to always err on the side of the people, protecting rights and defending democracy and promoting good governance. PUNCH has always served as the people’s source of independent, investigative and reliable information and you have acquitted yourself creditably in providing the public with news and information, and to serve as a forum for different points of view on public affairs. Above all, you have been very objective in the presentation of news and debates that engender development.

“As you forge ahead into the other half of the century, it is my prayer that your brand of journalism survives and offers the pathway to a greater Nigeria as your business also continues to blossom.”
