A 40-year-old woman, Christy Garuba, has accused the Delta State Police Command of alleged bias in the handling of the murder case of her 11-year-old son, Joshua Sunday.
She faulted what she described as the speedy release of the suspects arrested in the connection with her son’s death.
Late Sunday, a primary six pupil of Uzoigwe Primary School, Asaba, was allegedly murdered on February 3, 2023, and his body was dumped inside a drum at No 7, Usonia Street, Asaba, the state capital.
However, the deceased’s mother, who made the accusation on Wednesday in Asaba, said the state police command had compromised and hurriedly released the suspects without proper investigation.
She said, “The release of the suspects speaks volumes about compromising the case. I might be denied justice at the end of the day.
“The police had arrested and quickly released about 14 suspects while other residents in the compound were left untouched.
“Imagine that the police even release the suspects before they took my statement.”
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, said the police were still on the matter.
“If you arrest people in connection with a case and there is no evidence tracing their involvement, and you still charge the matter to court, the judge will make lampoon the police,” he said.
