Suspected Lagos cultist remanded for killing shoemaker

A Yaba Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, has remanded a suspected cultist, Usman Badmus, for allegedly killing a shoemaker, Adesanya Mayowa, in the Gbagada area of the state.

The 28-year-old orphan was arraigned before Magistrate P. E. Nwaka on three counts of unlawful association and murder.

The police prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen, told the court that Badmus committed the crime along with his cult members around 8pm on September 15, 2020, in the Sholuyi area of Gbagada.

He said the defendant went into hiding in Ajah for over two years and was later seen by people who reported the matter to the police.

The charges read in part, “That you, Usman Badmus, and others still at large, on September 15, 2020, around 8pm, in the Sholuyi area of Gbagada, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, during unlawful activities of your Eiye confraternity, did shoot one Adesanya Mayowa Disu, now deceased, thereby committing an offence under Section 231
