Ogun police confirm arrest of criminal suspect in couple’s murder

Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in the gruesome murder of a former official of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Kehinde Fatinoye, and his wife Bukola on New Year day at their residence located within the Ibara Government Reservation Area (GRA), Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. Spokesperson for the Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said an investigation was ongoing to unravel the killers and their motive. Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident as a case of suspected assassination, said: “It is true that a couple was killed and set ablaze at their residence in Abeokuta, shortly after they returned from Cross Over Service. ”This is a clear case of assassination and we are not leaving any stone unturned to unravel those behind the killings. “One person has been arrested by our operatives in connection to the incident. We will get to the root of the matter, as investigation has since begun. The couple died in a mysterious fire a few hours after crossover church service. The incident happened after 12 in the morning.” MEANWHILE, there were indications that the slain Ogun

couple made a distressed telephone call for help when the assassins visited their home.It was learnt that the complaint, who reported the case to the police in a statement informed the authorities that he was at another church in the town for the Crossover Service, when he noticed an unusual flash from the telephone line of the wife. According to a source, this repeated flash from the wife made him rush down home alongside another member of the family in a Hyundai car, while on arrival at the home, they were seized by three armed men, who tied them up. The complainant added that the suspects threw them from the bridge into the river and that he managed to swim out of the river, but the other victim said to be the deceased son was yet to be seen based on the report. That police at Ibara station, promptly mobilised its men to lead an anti robbery team and crack detectives to the scene, while on arrival at the scene it was discovered that the assassins after committing the heinous crime, set the building on fire. The source added that Kehinde Fatinoye, ‘56’, a Marketing Manager with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and his wife, Olubukola Fatinoye, ‘50’, were burnt beyond recognition, while fire was later put off by firefighters. Also, the entire Adigbe river and Ibara environs are being combed for possible rescue of the other victim and recovery of the Hyundai car, as well as arrest of other suspects now at large, while the case will be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran after preliminary investigation .
