A Youth Ambassador of the Economic Community of West African States, Richard Solomon, has condemned the killing of Lagos-based lawyer, Bolanle Raheem.

Solomon called on the president of the Nigerian Bar Association, Yakubu Maikyau, and other relevant stakeholders to “ensure that justice is not just done, but manifestly seen to be done.”

“These vile and abhorrent men in uniform are becoming more and more brazen and disrespectful of the law by the day,” he said in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday.

“Pay attention, this was not the first time, similar situations had occurred in recent times. On December 7, 2022, one Mr Gafaru Buraimoh met his death under the same sad circumstance in the same area. This latest incident has to mark the end.

“The Nigeria Police Force’s promise to look into this tragedy must result in justice, and the police officers must be tried in open, unbiased, and independent court proceedings.”

Stressing further, he said, “A person’s right to life is the most sacred of all rights. No human is to be deprived of his/her right to life unless in circumstances permitted by law. The mere appearance of the facts arising from the unfortunate incident is a testament to the fact that a human being has been unlawfully deprived of her right to life, and justice must not just be done but be seen to actually be done!”

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased. Indeed, her death is a colossal loss; not only to her family but to the legal profession, the country and humanity at large,” Solomon added.
