Oyo State Police Command has ordered full-scale investigation into the alleged destruction of party billboards in some parts of the state. It, therefore, vowed to bring the perpetrators to book.
The command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Adewale Osifeso, disclosed this in a statement yesterday. Osifeso said the Commissioner of Police (CP), Adebowale Williams, had ordered his deputy in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to uncover those behind the destruction of billboards in the state.
He said some unscrupulous and criminal-minded agents perpetrated the crime during the weekend.
The command warned political bigwigs and other stakeholders in the state to put a check on their overzealous loyalists and supporters “who are driven by the ideologies of enforcing dominance and territorialism through needless aggression and violence.”
It further appealed to parents, guardians and other opinion leaders to caution their wards against being used by desperate politicians as canon-fodders and destructive tools.
It also warned that anyone caught disturbing the peace in the state or inciting violence through deeds or otherwise anywhere would be “decisively dealt with in accordance with relevant laws of the country.”
