Iyalode Of Lagos Holds Rally For Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu, Others
The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Babatunde Akiolu, yesterday, advised the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to be careful, watch the way he goes about his campaign and draw near to God ahead of 2023 general elections. Speaking at the installation of the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, as the Bamofin of Lagos, Akiolu, who was asked to comment on the forthcoming presidential election, especially Tinubu’s chances, said Tinubu must know that leadership comes from Almighty Allah. “But he has to be very careful. He has to watch it. I, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, do not belong to the group of people who will tell Bola what he wants to hear so that he will not be annoyed. Let him be annoyed 100 times; he is still my son and I will still tell him the truth because I do not want his destruction or any bad thing to befall him. “All things being equal, he should be close to God, knows what to say, when to say it. Recently, I was happy when I heard in some of his speeches that by the grace of God, he would emerge. Everything is by the grace of God not by might or money. It is God Almighty that would make things happen. Any right-thinking Nigerian knows he has what it takes to lead this country.” Akiolu was optimistic that Nigeria would be great and prosperous again, stating that a few greedy politicians and cronies are holding down the country. He reiterated the need for the Federal Government and President Muhammadu Buhari to grant Lagos special status. He said, “This country is going to be peaceful and prosperous one for all but just for a time. The greed of our people of grabbing and grabbing, and the Quran has said it, even the bible; the madman is amassing wealth, for those who will spend it. “The press should please help Lagos appeal to the Federal Government and President Buhari to give special status to Lagos. It is God Almighty that has made Lagos like that. It’s catering for so many people.” According to him, Buhari is not a bad person, but a resourceful person, though age is against him, saying that he bestowed the honorary chieftaincy title, Bamofin of Lagos on the speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa because he has been a calm, cool, and productive. “But you have to be very close to him to know him and that is why I advise him. He has been close to me for a long time and by the grace of Almighty Allah,” he said. He said from the date he was installed king till now, not up to 10 honorary chieftaincy titles had been dished out because he does not give out chieftaincy titles irrationally.
