Awori nation ripe and capable to have traditional council – Olota

The Olota of Ota, Ogun State, Oba Abdulkabir Obalanlege, has said the Awori nation, of which he is a traditional leader, is ripe and capable to have its own traditional council.

Obalanlege insisted that Awori is an independent nation, hence, capable of having its own traditional council.

The monarch spoke in his Ota palace, in Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area of the state while briefing newsmen on the 2022 Odun Omo Iganmode, scheduled to hold between December 12 and 18, 2022.

Awori people are currently split into two, with one side lumped with Yewa Traditional Council while the other is under Egba Traditional Council.

However, Obalanlege insisted that it was time for the Awori people to stand on their own.

He said, “Regarding the Awori Traditional Council, Ota is in the forefront of the Awori nation, we believe and we have always been saying that we are not hiding anywhere. We are capable and we believe we are ripe to have our own traditional council.”

Speaking on the festival, Obalanlege noted that the Omo Iganmode festival is more important in a time when Ota land is currently facing security challenges like other communities in Nigeria.
