The Nigerian Correctional Service, (NCoS), has announced the dismissal, sacking and warning of 38 for various acts of misconduct and offences against standard practice.
Announcing the sanctions, Controller General of the service, Haliru Nababa, said 9 of the personnel were dismissed from the service while 25 are to go on compulsory retirement and 4 more were issued warning letters each.
In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, (PRO), Abubakar Umar, yesterday in Abuja, Nababa said the sanctions were carried out in line with powers vested on the Controller General as contained in the Nigerian Correctional Service Act, 2019 and with the approval of the Civil Defence, Corrections, Fire and Immigration Board, (CDCFIB).
Nababa assures the public that “the service will not relent in ridding its workforce of bad eggs and warns that there would be no room for indolence and other acts against discipline in the service.
He further reiterate the readiness of his administration to “reward officers and men who are hardworking and committed to duty.”
He stated that the Reward Fund Unit is fully activated and that “very soon, staff with exceptional performance will be invited to its headquarters in Abuja to receive rewards for their show of gallantry and dedication to duty.”
While appreciating Nigerians for their cooperation, he urged them to accept offenders that have served terms and shown enough penitence in order to break the circle of re-offending and help them reintegrate in their communities better.
