Following the controversies that trailed the closure of the Dangote Cement Company, Obajana, the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE), has appealed to concerned stakeholders to embrace peaceful dialogue towards ameliorating the negative effects of the ongoing tussle on employees of the company. A statement by the President of the association, Saidu Aliyu Mohammed, noted that “the sudden disruption is a major threat to the lives and livelihoods of the most vulnerable stakeholders in the production site, which are thousands of direct and indirect employees of the company .”
He said: “Cement production plant is a traditional treasure house of chemical engineers, among all other skilled professionals that under-guard an industrial economy, hence NSChE appeals for sustained dialogue between Kogi State government, led by Governor Yahaya Bello and President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, to resolve the contentious issues that will threaten business continuity.” He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his intervention that has enabled restarting operations at the Cement Plant. While commending both parties for responding positively to the intervention of the President, he enjoined them to commit to peaceful dialogue to fully resolve the
contentious issues or recourse to peaceful use of the legal procedures of courts as a last resort.
