A 26-year-old man, Henry Chinedu, has been accused of stealing diapers worth N13.5m from a trader, Okouromi Ehighamhen, in the Ogba area of Ikeja, Lagos State.
Chinedu was arraigned on Thursday before Chief Magistrate L.A. Owolabi at the Samuel Ilori Court, Ọgbà, on three counts of conspiracy and stealing.
The charges read in part, “That you, Henry Chinedu, and others at large, sometime in August 2022 around 10am in the Akilo area of Ogba, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony, to wit stealing.
“That you, Henry Chinedu, and others at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid magisterial district, did steal 1,122 bundles of Softcare Pampers, valued at N13.5m, property of one Okouromi Ehighamhen.”
The police prosecutor, Josephine Ikhayere, said the offences were contrary to sections 411, 287(1), and 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Chief Magistrate Owolabi granted him bail in the sum of N1.5m with two sureties in like sum.
Owolabi adjourned the matter till November 3 for mention.
