A 19-year old, Rasaki Hammed, and six others were on Tuesday arraigned before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for attacking the convoy of wife of Osun state Governor, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola.
Others arraigned alongside the teenager were Omolola Paul, 40; Soliu Waheed, 21; Tiamiyu Basiru, 30; Olayiwola John, 26; Owoade Mutiu, 28; and Ibrahim Tunde, 20.
Arraigned on four counts bordering on conspiracy to commit felony, serious assault and malicious damage, the defendants were also accused of pelting Mr. Benson Oyebode, an aide to Mrs Oyetola, and an operative of the Department of State Security with stone, causing them injuries.
Addressing the court, the police prosecutor, Kayode Asanbe, said the defendants and others yet to be apprehended, caused a breach of peace by attacking Mrs Oyetola’s convoy on August 19, 2022 at about 8pm at Owode Market, Ede, Osun state.
According to him, the defendants also unlawfully damaged the windscreen of three vehicles in Oyetola’s convoy.
The offences were said to be in contravention of Sections 516, 249, 451(b), 356(2) of the criminal code cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.
In their plea, the defendants, pleaded not guilty to the charges pressed against them.
Mr. Adebiyi Gbenle, who announced appearance for the defendants, urged the court to admit them to bail.
Ruling on the bail application, the presiding magistrate, Mr. R. Salami, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000 and two sureties.
He then adjourned the matter till September 26 for hearing.
