The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Mr Olumide Akpata has described as the publicity of the recent internal wranglings in the Association as a welcome development which shows that the Association has returned to its pride of place with its affairs worthy of discourse.

Akpata made the remarks at a press conference ahead of the forthcoming NBA Annual General Conference scheduled to hold later this month in Eko Atlantic, Lagos.

According to him, “the fact that the internal squabbles within the NBA is in the news simply depicts that the NBA Is gradually taking its pride of place”.

“The Nigerian Bar Association has returned to its pride of place in national discuss and there is no way we could have done that without the press.

“We are right now immersed in a few family quarrels

“I received a call drawing my attention to the news on Channels television about the internal issues in the NBA and wanted to know if I was worried, and I said to them the media is simply doing their job”

“What that tells me is that the NBA has returned to its pride of place to the extent that even when we have in-house issues it is worthy and important enough to attract attention and to be on prime time news.

For me, that was a very good sign that the job that we have been doing together as far as rebranding of the NBA is concerned has achieved the desired results.

The NBA is back, it has gotten its voice back, and there is no way we could have achieved this without the media; please accept my thanks ” he said

The president also urged the media to continue showing support in the reportage of developments as it affects the development of society.

He said “We will not stop; we must continue to speak truth to power” he said.
