Anambra establishes court to checkmate domestic violence

Anambra State government has established family court to tackle issues relating to domestic violence in the state.

Anambra Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, disclosed this, yesterday, in Awka, while hosting members of the United Business Women And Farmers Association in her office.

Obinabo said the family court has 10 cases pending, while nine suspects were remanded and are awaiting trial, while one was granted bail.

The commissioner stressed that the government of Prof. Charles Soludo has zero tolerance for domestic violence, let alone, killing one’s spouse, insisting that the ministry would continue to ensure such incidents are put under check.

She noted that Anambra is not the only state where incidences of domestic violence have been reported, adding that the state has one of the lowest cases of death through such incidents and that the recent incident makes it the fifth case.
