Police on stop-and-search catches motorist with hard drugs

The Lagos State Police Command on Friday said its operatives intercepted 21 parcels of illicit drugs suspected to be Indian hemp in the Ogba area of the state.

City Round learnt that during a stop-and search at Aguda near Excellence Hotel, Ogba, the operatives attached to Area G Command intercepted the parcels concealed in the bonnet of a Sienna bus marked BEN 883 LW.

It was learnt that the vehicle driver, Kalu Orji, was also arrested and had been ordered by the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, to be transferred to the Command headquarters for further investigation.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

Hundeyin said, “Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command attached to Area G Command, Ogba, have intercepted 21 parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp. The illicit drugs were being conveyed and concealed in the bonnet of a Sienna bus with registration number BEN 883 LW driven by one Kalu Orji ‘m’ aged 32 of Angle 90, Auchi, Edo State.

Luck, however, ran out of the suspect when vigilant policemen attached to Area G command on stop-and-search, stopped the vehicle at about 1540hrs on Friday, August 5, 2022 at Aguda near Excellence Hotel, Ogba, Lagos State.

“The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi has directed that the suspect and exhibit be transferred to the command’s headquarters for further investigation. He equally reassures the general public of adequate security of lives and property and a sustainable fight against the menace of drug misuse and abuse in Lagos State.”
