Broadcaster apologiese, One dies, another injured as BRT rams into building

• Broadcaster pays N70,000 fine over BRT lane incident At least one person was confirmed dead yesterday, while another was left in critical condition when a Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) bus rammed into a building at Bayo Kuku area along Alfred Rewane road outward Falomo, Lagos. The bus driver, whose identity is yet unknown with registration number Lagos KSF 397, allegedly lost control and crossed over to other side of the road, thereby ramming into a building. As a result, the building collapsed and trapped two occupants therein.

Policemen and other emergency responders were mobilised to the scene and 45-year-old Dauda Lukas was rescued from the rubbles with injuries, while one other adult male whose identity is yet to be established was brought out dead. According to the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, the injured victim was taken to Lagos Island General Hospital for treatment, while the corpse of the deceased was deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

MEANWHILE, Arise Television presenter, Oseni Rufai, accused of driving on Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) lane on Lagos highway and resisting arrest by policemen, yesterday, appeared in a Lagos mobile court. He was charged with flouting Lagos State Transport Law of 2018 and the court found him guilty of driving on the BRT lane in contravention of the law and was fined N70,000. According to Hundeyin, Rufai made the payment and his vehicle was released to him. He said: “Mr Rufai Oseni was in court earlier today. He was found guilty of contravening Lagos State Transport Law (2018). He was subsequently fined N70,000. He made the payment, after which his vehicle was released to him.” The presenter also apologised to all parties involved in the incident, adding that it has been a humbling experience for him. He made the apology during a live broadcast show on Arise News TV yesterday morning
