NBA President, Akpata confirms plans to secure Inibehe Effiong release, says he’s in good spirits

The President of Nigerian Bar Association, (NBA) Olumide Akpata, has updated the entire public on the remand of activist and Lawyer, Inibehe Effiong.

Speaking about the situation, Olumide Akpata stated that the feedback he had received was a positive one. “I have received positive feedback from the NBA 1st Vice President Mr. John Aikpokpo Martins regarding our member, Inibehe Effiong who was incarcerated this week on allegations of contempt of court.” He said.

He confirmed that the 1st V.P of the NBA has received the mandate to do everything possible to secure the release of Effiong. His words read thus; “As I advised on Thursday, the NBA 1st Vice President was instructed to travel to Akwa Ibom State and leave no stone unturned in ensuring the release of Mr. Effiong.”

He continued; “Mr Aikpokpo Martins visited Inibehe at the Ikot Ekpene Correctional Centre in the company of the Chairman NBA Uyo Branch and has assured me that Inibehe is in good spirits. He has my mandate to remain in Akwa Ibom State and continue to work toward securing Mr Effiong’s release.”

ASKLEGALPALACE, on Wednesday, reported that Inihebe Effiong was remanded in Ikot Ekpene Prison by the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State sometime last week for comtempt of Court while appearing before the Chief Judge on a defamation case against the Governor of Akwa Ibom, Gov. Emmanuel Udom.

ASKLEGALPALACE, earlier reported that the NBA President, Olumide Akapata had stated that the NBA would get to the end of the matter surrounding the arrest, and had instructed the 1st V.P to go to Akwa Ibom and oversee the matter. This report is from the efforts of the NBA 1st V. P in Akwa Ibom.

Meanwhile the foremost human rights Advocate, Femi Falana SAN, informed ASKLEGALPALACE, that NBA has taken over the matter.

Falana SAN said, “We are supporting the administrative options being explored by the NBA for the release of Inibehe in view of the fact that the Court of Appeal is currently on annual vacation.”
