Lagos to continue demolition of defective structures, association donates excavator

The Lagos State Government has expressed the confidence that its recent acquisition of an excavator will assist in its desire to continue to demolish defective structures in the state.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Idris Salako, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the statement, Salako stated this during the inauguration of a new excavator donated to the Lagos State Building Control Agency by the Ajah/Lekki Developers Association in Ikeja.

“The acquisition of the CAT 320D excavator will go a long way in ensuring that the agency carries out its mandate more effectively as critically distressed and defective structures can be pulled down immediately they are detected,” he said.

In his remarks, the General Manager of LSBCA, Gbolahan Oki, called on citizens to adhere to building codes as the agency would move to ensure safer structures in the state.

“While appreciating the gesture of the association for the gift, I want to assure the general public of the agency’s readiness to nip in the bud cases of collapse by promptly identifying and removing distressed and defective structures in every part of the state.

“We will continue to do our best in ensuring safer, healthier and habitable buildings through inspection, monitoring and enforcement of both existing and buildings under construction. I implore the general public to adhere strictly to the state building codes during constructions,” he stated.
