75 hearty cheers to a legal luminary, Osuman SAN

Mamman Mike Osuman (SAN) was born on June 6, 1947 to Hajia Fati, a Kanuri and Alhaji Osuman,a Tiv, in Benue State. He completed his primary school in Lagos in 1960, passed the West African Examination Council (WASC) examination in 1965 and Higher School Certificate (HSC) in 1967. He graduated in Law from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria in 1973. He recently marked his 75th birthday.

While in the academia, he became a Senior Lecturer in Law in three universities during, which period he was the Dean of the Faculty of Law, having earlier, been a State Counsel in Jos – former Benue – Plateau State and later, an Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice of Benue State.

He is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a Notary Public and a Member of the

Body of Benchers.

He has been in regular uninterrupted legal practice for over 45 years and still counting.

He has been a Legal Adviser, Counsel, Chairman and Member of Federal and State Boards and Parastatals, including the defunct Nigeria Airways Ltd; and served as Chairman and Member of Federal and state Government Judicial Tribunals / Commission of Inquiry.

Currently a member of Quid Juris – Legal Practitioners that is a veritable Partnership made up of three (3) outstanding Senior Advocates of varied skills in areas of specialisation, a very Senior Lawyer (Ph.D), who is an author, a barrister as well as an academic and an ex-Nigeria’s two-term ambassador, a lawyer with considerable practice experience.

He was a member of the Federal Government Transition To Civil Rule Military (Judicial) Tribunal from 1988 – 1990.

He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and also the International Bar Association.

He was the counsel to the Nigerian Airways Ltd in Nigeria and the United Kingdom during which period he accomplished the legal feat of rescuing through legal due processes (both from the Lagos High Court and the London High Court) the DC – 10 that was impounded in London Heathrow Airport.

He led a three-man delegation (made up of a British Solicitor and a Nigerian Airways Aeronautical Engineer) to Belgium to investigate the circumstances surrounding some vandalized and missing components of a Nigeria Airways A Bus Plane that was left at the Belgium International Airport Tarmac.
