NBA Election 2022: Over 59, 392 lawyers cleared to vote, as Akpata led NBA records highest voter turnout in history

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) national election for the electing of the 2022-2024 administration is a few hours from now. The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) having been working tirelessly to validate qualified voters has published the names of over 59, 392 lawyers who have been qualified to vote in tomorrow’s election, thus recording NBA’s highest voters turnout tally in history of the Association.

The ECNBA has been working on the sidelines to ensure that voters get the vest experience and the entire election process which is expected to hold electronically is a massive success. To this effect, ECNBA had pre-tested the process as well provided information to assist voters in participating in the process without any squabbles. Thus, the die has been cast, and the learned profession is waiting to vote in its next leaders.

Once again, the contenders for the NBA Presidency are Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama (SAN), Mikyau Chonoko Yakubu (SAN) and Jonathan Gunu Taidi. Bala Linda, Bawa Yakubu and Liman Salihu are contenders for 1st Vice-President. As for the 2nd Vice President of the Association, Abonyi Gerald, Chukwuemeka Clement and Nosike Damian are running are the contenders. While Asagba Justina and Ogbah Isaac are contesting for 3rd Vice-President.

For the position of the General Secretary, we have as contenders Adegbite Adesina, Asenoguan Osamuede, Ogiegbaen Callistus and Yamah Desmond; for Assistant General Secretary, the candidates are Aka Oluwaseun, Balogun Dhikrullah, Kip Daniel and Oseme Peremene. The position of treasurer is contended by Adeogun Funmilola, Anze-Bishop Caroline and Balarabe Safiya. The NBA Welfare Secretary is contested by Adaramola Gbemiga, Aniekwena Ben, Auta Nyada, Obasi Chinyere and Ugwuoke Ikechukwu. The Publicity Secretary position is being contested by Emoghwanre Ogaga and Lawal Akorede; while the position for the Assistant Publicity Secretary will be contested by Ajiboye Charles and Nwoye Akachukwu.

22 candidates; Abdullahi Faskari, Agada Mercy, Agbaga Dennis, Agi Anne, Aikpokpo-Martins John, Akintayo John, Anagor Raphael, Anizoba Obi, Bello Abdulganiyu, Edun Olukunle, Igba Theophilus, Lagbamue Israel, Maidoki Muhammad, Muhammad Asmau, Munguno Mohammed, Nduka Rapuluchukwu, Nwaeze Nwaebuka, Okwun-Kalu Dave, Oladapo Olalekan, Onwere Victor, Oyeyiola Durodoluwa and Usman Joshua, have beem listed for the General Council of the Bar.

The Association highest recorded number of voters in history; 59,392 Lawyers are expected to vote the next leaders of the Bar from these contenders.
