Hundreds of women groups, led by Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF), have described as “unconstitutional and distractive” the appeal of the 35 per cent affirmative action victory secured on April 6 this year by a coalition of the gender at the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has appealed the ruling on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a chat with The Guardian, NWTF’s president, Mufuliat Fijabi, said the appeal “is highly unconstitutional because appeals are usually filed within 30 days of judgments.”
She added: “Therefore, the appeal instituted by Malami and President Buhari shows that they both see themselves as above the law and against moves to develop Nigeria.”
