Federal Government has held training for police personnel across the geopolitical zones on human rights, rights of the police, and conflict management.

The initiative aimed to broaden officers’ perspectives on innovative policing.

The event tagged: ‘Psychological Development, Human Rights, the Rights of the Police and Conflict Management’, was organised by the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) at the NICON Luxury and Sheraton Hotels in Abuja.

Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, in his address read by Director (General Services), Mrs Edenmaya Ibironke Brayia, said the training would open a fresh vista in relations between the police and communities, and harness human intelligence for crime control.

He said: “This will immensely improve knowledge, enhance job performance, create an avenue for exchange of ideas, ensure overall skills development and bring you up to date in modern policing techniques.

“I, therefore, have no doubt that at the end of this training, you will come out refreshed, reinvigorated, and adequately repositioned for more effective and efficient delivery of the very challenging task of securing the nation and, most especially, well equipped to provide adequate security during the 2023 general elections.”

He described the establishment of the NPTF as apt and timely, saying it provides an avenue for a holistic approach to mobilising funds to address security challenges facing the country.

NPTF Executive Secretary, represented by Director (Planning, Research and Statistics), Muhammad Yahaya, said the training was part of activities of the year 2021 budget as appropriated by the National Assembly and signed into law by Mr. President in July 2021.

He said the objective is to enhance the operational preparedness of the police in effectively tackling security challenges and protecting the life and property of citizens.
