Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, opened the newly-built containerised modular interactive classrooms at Vetland Junior Grammar School, Agege, Lagos.

The governor said the commissioning marked yet another milestone intervention in the transformation of the education sector in the state.

All the classrooms are equipped with interactive touch screens, and all the students will be given electronic tablets to aid both in-class and virtual learning.

The containerised modular building, he said, was made up of nine regular classrooms, three laboratories and four staff rooms, while all of the spaces are powered by solar panels, which means a guaranteed power supply to enable teaching and learning under the most conducive conditions.

According to the governor, the structure is the future of public basic education in Nigeria and Africa and a welcome milestone on the state’s journey towards ensuring that no child is left behind in Lagos State.

Sanwo-Olu appealed to the principal, teachers and pupils of the school, and in all benefiting schools, to take full ownership of these facilities being provided, and ensure they are used and maintained responsibly, saying: “You have a duty to take good care of everything that has been made available to you so that future generations can enjoy them.

Earlier, Chairman of SCRPS, Mr. Hakeem Smith, said the classrooms were constructed with sustainability in mind to meet the needs of the 21st Century.

In another development, Sanwo-Olu has awarded 13 exceptional teachers with car gifts at the State House, Ikeja.

Also, 14 families that were displaced during the construction of the Pen-Cinema Bridge in the Agege area of Lagos State were resettled yesterday.

The governor, while handing over the apartment keys to the allottees at the ‘Greater Lagos LBIC Apartments’ inside the existing Ijaye Housing Estate at Pen-Cinema, described the initiative as a testament to his administration’s commitment to providing affordable housing for Lagosians.

He said his administration had opened about 16 housing estates and 4,000 apartments since its inception in 2019.
