Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court sitting in Kaduna has convicted and sentenced two fraudsters to three years’ imprisonment each for impersonation.

The convicts, Mmadubionwu Kingsley and Samuel Wobin, were jailed on Monday after pleading guilty to separate one-count charge bordering on impersonation upon their arraignment by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The EFCC, in a statement, said Kingsley and Wobin disguised as Caucasian Americans on Instagram to defraud unsuspecting persons.

The statement read in part, “Kingsley, sometime in April 2022, at Kaduna, in an attempt to commit fraud, falsely presented himself as one Gerald Keith, a white man and an entrepreneur on Instagram, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 142 (1) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.

“Wobin, in like manner, sometime in April 2022, at Kaduna, in an attempt to commit fraud, falsely presented himself as Thomas Broussard, an American military officer stationed in El Segundo, Los Angeles, California, to Jessica R. Brownskin, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 142(1) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.”

Both men pleaded guilty to the charge when read to them individually, and were convicted and sentenced to three years’ imprisonment each.
