THE Lagos State Government has met with stakeholders as part of ongoing measures to manage setbacks and open spaces for the purpose of effective urban planning.

The General Manager, Lagos State Planning and Environmental Monitoring Authority, Mr Daisi Oso, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

Oso was quoted to have spoken during a meeting with the leadership of Anthony Enahoro Estate Residents Association and Lagos State Development and Property Corporation’s housing estate in Lagos.

He said, “The reason for initiating this engagement stemmed from the need to constantly work together with our stakeholders toward achieving a common objective of better management of our setbacks, especially those setbacks adjoining their estates.

“It is imperative for critical engagement to decide on how best to manage these spaces, and it is also important to run it with critical stakeholders who may have a superior and better solution that will speak to urban planning inclusion.

“To clear the air regarding the challenges of the residents in LSDPC housing estate, Agege, about setback adjoining the estate by Oba Ogunji having the contention of who has the statutory responsibility to control the use of the space, I refer to Section 2a of Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law of 2019 as amended.”

The Chairman, LSDPC estate, Mr Dapo Daramola, commended LASPEMA for its intervention in the estate’s planning.

“This is the first time we are having a government agency using bottom-top approach in urban planning,” he said.
