Pandemonium as truck driver kills three along Lekki-Epe Expressway

There was pandemonium yesterday, following the death of three people in an accident involving a tipper driver and motorcyclist at Eleganza bus stop, along Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos.

An eyewitness alleged that the motorcyclist was riding against traffic and was hit by a speeding vehicle before a tipper crushed the rider and the passengers. Motorcyclists, who witnessed the accident set the tipper ablaze and made a bonfire on the road in protest against the death of their colleague and his two passengers at Chevron near the second toll-gate.

The incident grounded vehicular movement along the Lekki-Epe area of the state, while commuters had hectic time in traffic for several hours. According to the witness, the truck driver ran for safety before the angry mob set the truck on fire. A commuter, Kingsley Kanu, who spent three hours from Victoria Garden City (VGC) to Mega Chicken as a result of the accident, said the truck was set ablaze before the arrival of security officials. MEANWHILE, the police had dislodged miscreants who made bonfire at Eleganza area over the accident. The officers, who had to control traffic inward and outward Ajah to restore sanity to the area, also made some significant arrests with many motorcyclists impounded. Security officials at the location include; Area Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Jide Agboola, Commander, Rapid Response Squad (RSS), Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Yinka Egbeyemi, Chairman, Lagos Task force, CSP Shola Jejeloye and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) of stations around the area.
