The Lagos State task force has arrested a suspected land grabber in the Ikeja axis of the state.
The suspect, Mr. Isaac, who occupies an expanse of land at Oluwasimi Estate, Cane Village, Maryland, was arrested after series of petitions submitted by the complainant, Asasi Adebambo, to the chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, Shola Jejeloye, over alleged encroachment by the accused, Isaac on a piece of land belonging to him.
The task force in a swift response to the petition mobilised its officers to the location where the suspect was invited and brought in for questioning.
According to the suspect, who claims to have bought the property from one Mr Urobo, he said he would contest the legitimacy of his ownership of the property when the agency charges him to court.
Reacting to the development, Jejeloye lamented that such cases have become rampant in the state, stressing that the Lagos State Taskforce on Land grabbing has established partnerships with other sister agencies to work on cases as they arise.
“We would ensure that all land grabbers in the state are arrested and charged to court. We won’t condone any illegality or forceful occupation of land any longer. Anybody found wanting in this regard will be prosecuted accordingly,” he said.
He urged residents to report any suspicious activities of illegal land occupants to the agency to bring the nefarious practice to a halt.
He also encouraged the people to be bold and present matters of land grabbing to the appropriate authorities to prevent losing hard-earned property.
