The Lagos State Government has unveiled plan to build more homes for senior citizens in the state to ensure they are adequately taken care of.
The Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr Olusegun Dawodu, made this known in a statement on Sunday.
Dawodu, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Olugbemiga Aina, was quoted to have said this when he received members of Age Nigeria Foundation in Alausa, Ikeja.
He said, “The policy of inclusion of the present administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu covers the older ones in the state. Part of it is to ensure that our senior citizens do not suffer unnecessarily. This is why plans are in top gear to build homes for them in the five divisions of the state.
“Old age is a milestone we all look forward to attaining and the ministry will do a lot of advocacy to improve the welfare and wellbeing of the elders by raising the consciousness of Nigerians to issues affecting them and see the task of caring for elders as a collective responsibility.”
The Chief Executive Officer, ANF, Mrs Oluyemisi Oluwole, commended the ministry for its assistance towards older persons.
