Stakeholders have endorsed a 10-year physical development action plan for Ijeododo, a settlement with expansive wetlands and rain forest zone in Ojo Local Government of Lagos State.
They gave their approval at a one-day Stakeholders Engagement on the Ijeododo action area plan organised by the MOA Planners Limited in collaboration with the state’s Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Hall, Ijododo.
Ijeododo has an estimated coverage area of 308 hectares of Land in Iba Local Council Development Area and surrounded by major communities like Ejigbo, Egan and Igando. Others are AbuleAdo, Ikotun, Okota, Ijegun and Ijagemo.
Speaking at the forum, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, said Ijeododo area plan is one of the nine plans on which preparations are still ongoing with obvious agrarian features, which requires a conscious effort to ensure that orderliness is brought into the area, thereby creating sustainable, organised, liveable, business and tourism friendly environment.
Salako, represented by the ministry’s Director, Technical services, Mr. Bola Aliu, said the consultant, MOA Planners Limited was contracted by the state government to prepare the Ijeododo Action Area Plan (2021-2031) and provide lasting and pragmatic solutions to perennial environmental flooding, slum prevalence, drainage challenges, inadequate/inefficient infrastructure and social amenities.
He stressed that the plan would unlock the developmental potentials of the Ijeododo Area. “It would midwife the turnaround of the fortunes of the city and make Ijeododo more liveable, beautiful, prosperous and environmentally-friendly,” Salako said.
The Director, Regional and Master Plan Department, Mr. Lateef Oladeinde, said the plan would address the inadequate facilities, overstretch of existing infrastructure and provision of approval order to guide development within the area.
He disclosed that the objective of the project is to ensure balanced land use, create harmony between various land use in the planning area, facilitate the development of new facilities or infrastructure and enhance the value of property in the area.
Oladeinde said it will also provide opportunity for property owners in Ijeododo to procure planning permits for their buildings or development, integrate the planning area with adjoining neighbourhood and communities as well as enhance the management of environmental resources of through provision of land use that ensure environmental sustainability.
The Managing Director, MOA Planners Limited, Mr. Moses Ogunleye, said the proposed improvement plan will give direction of growth and development within Ijeododo for the next 10 years.
He advised that an inter-ministerial committee on Ijeododo Action Area should be constituted to facilitate the implementation of the plan.
Ogunleye further recommended that the state’s Physical Planning Permit Authority serve contravention notices on all ongoing construction work without permit, while the office of the state’s surveyor general with the collaboration of the Lands Bureau and Parks and Gardens Agency facilitate the revocation of rights and acquisition of lands for institutional / public and recreational uses.
