‘African youths must rise to develop its continent’

African youths have been urged to rise to the challenge thrown at them by other continents of the world and work towards developing their continent.

The call was made by a youth advocate, Bolarinwa Olabode, at the presentation of his book, ‘Africa: A continent between the cruxes of freedom and responsibility,’ in Osogbo.

Olabode, who said the era of buck passing has ended, also advised the younger generation to seek knowledge to be self-reliant.

He said, “The book is a product of three years’ research and it comes up with a challenge to African youths to rise to the challenge thrown at them by other continents of the world.

“African youths must rise to the occasion of self-discovery and self-development which will, in turn, lead to self-reliance. Days of blame game are over.

“Youths should seek to acquire certificates, but more importantly, seek to develop skills, learn new things, explore new fields and prepare for the inevitable change that happens daily in this 21st century.”

The book reviewer, Prof. Amos Idowu of the Faculty of Law, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, said the author addressed fundamental problems affecting Africa and all the nations on the continent, particularly Nigeria.

According to him, the book also touched on leadership being a critical factor for development for any country and the role of youths in driving national development.
