THE Nigeria Police Force has written to the International Criminal Police Organisation to assist in the arrest of Roheem Adedoyin, the prime suspect in the murder of Mr Timothy Adegoke, a Master’s degree student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
Roheem is the son of Dr Ramon Adedoyin, the owner of Hilton Hotels and Resort where Adegoke lodged and was allegedly murdered.
Roheem, who is on the run, is wanted in connection with Adegoke’s mysterious death.
A senior police officer confirmed that the police would obtain a court order and declare the suspect wanted this week, adding that the Intelligence Response Team is working hard to tie all the loose ends in the case.
The source stated, “We have sent a letter to the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department to write to the Interpol. We are going to declare the boy wanted but we need a court order to declare him wanted.
“The court order would be obtained this week. The INTERPOL, Nigeria Immigration Service and other security agencies would start looking for him.”
A suspect in custody had reportedly confessed that Roheem, who is the hotel’s Managing Director, supervised how Adegoke’s corpse was evacuated from the facility and buried without informing the police.
The police source further stated, “The IRT has interrogated all the suspects and also met with the family of the deceased. The investigation is going on well and we have obtained a remand order to keep the suspects in custody pending investigation in line with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.”
Findings also showed that the autopsy report released to the police indicated that the deceased died of trauma from a blunt instrument.
The post-mortem was conducted at the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital Complex, Osogbo, on November 22, with family members, lawyers and pathologists from both sides represented.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, could not be reached on Sunday for an update on the case.
Calls to his phone rang out and he had yet to respond to an SMS as of the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the Adedoyin family has called on the Nigerian public to exercise restraint in their reaction to Adegoke’s unfortunate death.
The family lawyer, Mr Abiodun Williams, in a statement on Sunday, said the family expressed concern over the manner Chief Ramon Adedoyin and members of his family were being dragged on the social media, saying the educationist remained innocent and could not, as the owner of the hotel, connive with his employees to perpetrate such crime.
The statement said, “Like any Nigerian and a parent, Chief Adedoyin is also saddened by the death of the young man. For the avoidance of any doubt, he is not only an educationist but also an established businessman with investments in different sectors of the Nigerian economy.
“He is, therefore, not involved in the day-to-day running of the hotel and indeed his other business establishments. Such is left in the hands of hundreds of employees.
“We wish to say, once again, that Chief Adedoyin, his children and any member of his family are no ritualists and will never condescend to such devilish act.
“We wish to express our sincere condolences and sympathy to the Adegoke family and pray that the Almighty will comfort them.”
The statement urged the police to be meticulous, impartial and refuse to be swayed by the social media rumours being propagated.
