The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has called on boys across the state to end domestic and sexual violence against girls and women.
The Executive Secretary, DSVA, Mrs Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said this on Wednesday, during a debate for secondary schoolboys, in Oregun, Ikeja.
The debate, themed, ‘Domestic and sexual violence: Who is to blame, society or perpetrator?’ was organised by the agency through the Kings Club initiative.
Vivour-Adeniyi said, “This idea was borne to celebrate boys’ potential, experiences and what they have to say and therefore, we have created an engaging platform for them, particularly during this period of 16 days of our activism to end violence against women and girls and everybody.”
A child protection specialist, Mr Taiwo Akinlami, explained that a real man should use his strength to protect and not oppress the female gender.
“Being a man does not make you an oppressor, even if society says otherwise. A real man uses his strength positively, to protect, provide and guide. Male gender and female gender are equal because God did not create any second-rate human being, and it is not his plan that a human being would be oppressed by another human,” he said.
The Managing Director, Primera Microfinance Bank, Mr Uwana Esang, counselled the boys to put their minds towards achieving success in life, treat others as they want to be treated and avoid joining bad gangs.
